In the home of the Phillies, Citizen’s Bank Park, there is a plaque that displays the greatest Philly at each position of all time, and nearly all of them are from the lone championship team from 1980. Names like Schmidt, Carlton, Rose, Trillo, Bowa, Maddox are engraved at their position on the field. For years that plaque has needed little updating, but it could use an overhaul today.
There is a new look to greatness in Philadelphia, and it comes with a whole crop of new names, like Rollins, Howard, Utley, Hamels and Lidge. This nucleus started proving their worth individuals with MVP trophies, but last night they won it all, and added their team to the elite list that only included those 80s players:
